TECSOUND – Silence not stealing space

Product & systems 7 September 2020

What is soundproofing ? – A short definition

A sound is a vibration propagating through a media (air, water, solid surface). It is to be differentiated from a noise, which characterizes an unpleasant, loud or disruptive sound.

  • Noises are classified in:
    • Airborne noise: related to weather factors or airplanes for instance
    • Impact noise: related to shocks in a surface, for instance footfall noise
    • Equipment noise: due to the vibrations of an equipment, like machines, piping or air-condition systems.

We all know that excessive noise is likely to affect life adversely. Concentration, intimacy or sleep can be greatly impacted.

Unfortunately, acoustic is often neglected at building design stage. But when taken into account, it helps improving quality of life, efficiency at work and brings added value to estate.

Acoustic comfort can be addressed with two types of solutions, which can be combined:

  • Soundproofing materials:

Placed on a surface, they reflect sound waves and thus diminish sound transmission.

  • Absorbing materials:

They reduce the transmission of sound waves by converting vibrations to heat.

What is the concept of TECSOUND ?

TECSOUND is the premium soundproofing range of SOPREMA.

TECSOUND is a viscoelastic heavy mass compound: it is meant to increase the mass of horizontal or vertical partitions.

Its particularity is to reach very high-density (2000kg/m3) at low thickness (1.75 to 5mm). As a result, TECSOUND helps to achieve outstanding acoustic performance without significantly increasing the assembly’s thickness.

TECSOUND is particularly relevant for thin, rigid and lightweight substrates like steel deck, wood pitched roofs or partitions of gypsum plasterboard.

Additionally, TECSOUND has a dampening effect : it prevents vibrations from being transmitted to the building structure. It makes a defining contribution to reducing noise from pipes, ducts or other cross-sections building elements.

What are the benefits of TECSOUND ?
